Volunteer Event -- 'The Loft'

Band Playing

I was really excited when I received confirmation of a ticket to attend the celebration of “volunteering in the city” at the Loft on the 30th September.

The venue soon filled up as other volunteers and representatives from volunteering organisations arrived.

The “mistress” of ceremonies was Home-Start’s very own volunteer Jane. She introduced the Deputy Mayor who told us what we already know, how valuable we are and how the service couldn’t be delivered in the same way by statutory agencies. He also drew the raffle and along with many others I won a bottle of wine.

The demonstration by David from Devine Chocolate was really impressive with an explanation of the history of chocolate and what types are good and bad for us. He included a sample of the best with an explanation on how best to eat it!

The Salsa band, Los Camaradas, performed and was well received by all with Kate showing us some basic salsa moves.

As always, the food and drink was provided to accommodate all diets and preferences, well done to the caterer.

The best part for me though was meeting new and experienced volunteers and staff from our own and other organisations. It was good to catch up on what’s going on.

A good night was certainly had by all and many thanks to the organisers. Oh and thanks to Ann for the lift home
